A federal judge has denied the Trump administration's request to dismiss a lawsuit targeting the detention of migrants at Guantanamo Bay. The lawsuit challenges the legality of using the US Navy base for this purpose.
President Trump's policy aimed at detaining 'worst criminal aliens' at the base as part of a broader immigration crackdown. Between February and June, approximately 500 immigrants were held at Guantanamo, which was used as a temporary holding site for those with final deportation orders.
The ACLU and other groups argue that transporting immigrants to this military base is unlawful, while the federal government maintains it has the authority to do so. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for next week.
