In a significant development, five employees of the Thane Municipal Corporation have been booked for their alleged involvement in the disappearance of a crucial development proposal file from the civic body's Town Planning department, according to police sources on Sunday.
The disappearance came under scrutiny 18 months ago after a local resident filed a Right to Information plea seeking certified copies linked to the proposal. Following an appeal with the State Information Commission, it was revealed that the file was untraceable, highlighting negligence within the department.
The individuals charged include a deceased record keeper and peon, alongside another record keeper, peon, and two clerks. They are facing charges under the Maharashtra Public Records Act 2005, and although no arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing.
