In a significant diplomatic development, two Dutch nationals incarcerated in Indonesia on drug trafficking charges are set to return to the Netherlands, Indonesian officials announced on Monday.
With one facing a death sentence and the other a life term, the men, currently receiving medical treatment, will serve the remainder of their sentences in Dutch prisons as part of a bilateral agreement between the countries.
This decision follows a pattern under President Prabowo Subianto's administration, which has repatriated numerous foreign prisoners, amid Indonesia's ongoing challenge as a key drug-smuggling hub.
