Jammu and Kashmir National Conference MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has raised serious allegations against hydro-power project developers in the region. Speaking at the Rajya Sabha, Kichloo accused these developers of not honoring their commitments to employ local citizens, violating agreed terms.
Kichloo emphasized the critical nature of hydropower as the main electricity source for Jammu and Kashmir, with NHPC and JKPDC leading various projects. He called attention to non-compliance by developers in adhering to employment contracts and noted grievances about the rehabilitation of displaced individuals.
In his address, Kichloo highlighted ongoing issues with four specific hydro projects on the Chenab River: Pakal Dul, Ratle, Kiru, and Kwar. He has urged for a special committee to investigate these claims, spotlighting intimidation tactics allegedly used against local voices of dissent.
