The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has accused 11 individuals in relation to the theft of about 4,000 kg of explosives from a vehicle in Rourkela, Odisha, this May. The accused face charges under various laws, including the UAPA, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act.
According to the NIA, the incident involved a well-planned criminal conspiracy executed by 10-15 armed Maoists who intercepted the explosives-laden vehicle and abducted the driver. The explosives were en route from the Itma Explosive Station to Banko stone quarry when the heist happened.
The NIA took over the investigation in June, subsequently uncovering that the stolen explosives were meant for terror acts against government institutions, further orchestrating a Maoist-led plot to destabilize national security.
