The All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC) has voiced its concerns regarding the safety and deployment conditions for bank officers serving as Electoral Roll Micro Observers (ERMOs) in West Bengal. Alarm was raised following an attack on officers in Farakka, which has highlighted the potential risks faced by staff in such roles.
According to AIBOC, the deployment during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process adversely impacts banking operations by taking officers away from their core responsibilities at a critical time for financial operations. The union insists that such assignments should be adjusted within business metrics to prevent unfair evaluations of public sector banks and staff.
Demanding immediate intervention from the Election Commission and financial authorities, AIBOC stresses the need for improved safety protocols and logistical support for officers. They allege discrimination against public sector bank staff in West Bengal and call for a reduction in non-banking duties to protect essential services.
