NIA's Arrest in CPI (Maoist) Revival: Chandan Kumar Nabbed

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended Chandan Kumar, a Naxal cadre involved in the revival of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit. Kumar, captured in Mumbai, was active in fundraising and re-enlisting old cadres. An NIA special court had declared him an absconder earlier.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday announced the arrest of Chandan Kumar, a Naxal cadre wanted for his involvement in the resurgence of the banned CPI (Maoist) group.

According to a statement by the central investigation agency, Kumar was apprehended in Mumbai. He is a resident of Jehanabad district in Bihar and played a significant role in fundraising and persuading former cadres to rejoin the Maoist cause to facilitate terrorism-related activities.

Previously declared an absconder by a special court in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Chandan Kumar had a non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him in October 2023. The NIA's investigations linked him and others to a plot aiming to revive the Maoist movement in the Magadh Zone through arms procurement and training, with operations funded by extortion and levies on contractors.
