In a significant breakthrough, Lebanese authorities have apprehended Ahmad Dunya, a Syrian national suspected of facilitating transactions for Bashar al-Assad's associates, aimed at destabilizing Syria's current regime. Dunya, who was arrested earlier this week, played a pivotal role in transferring funds intended for financing fighter groups.

Dunya's arrest comes on the heels of a request from top Syrian security officials demanding Lebanon turn over more than 200 former officers who sought refuge there post-Assad's downfall. This request aligns with a Reuters investigation highlighting financial efforts by Assad's former allies to foster militant groups in Lebanon and Syria.

It was uncovered that Dunya was involved in channeling money from Rami Makhlouf, Assad's billionaire cousin now in exile in Moscow, to potential fighters. Evidence suggests significant funds were managed, with Dunya allegedly misappropriating some of the transfers. Officials suspect numerous others like Dunya may still be operating in the region, hinting at a broader network.
