In our previous news, we stated that the outfitters are passionately waiting for rainy season in Zambia to end in April so that they can commence assassinating about 1250 hippopotami at the world-renowned Luangwa River Valley.

Currently, Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism and Arts Permanent Secretary, Reverend Howard Sikwela has revealed that a killing-spree of hippos in the Luangwa Valley will proceed due to ‘contractual obligations’. According to Sikwela, his Ministry has no powers at this stage to overrule the decision on the planned hippo culling slated to restart mid this year, as reported by Lusaka Times.

Reverend Sikwela opined during a meeting with the USA Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote visited him that his Ministry concerted to the cull because of the challenge of hippo carrying capacity of the Luangwa River Ecosystem and contractual obligations that were already undertaken. According to him, the Zambian government appreciates the support of the US Embassy to the growth of the tourism sector especially in the South Luangwa National Park where an estimate of 40,000 American tourist visits, contributing around USD 37 million each year.

But Daniel Foote expressed his desire to see an alternative solution to the cull.
