Not good precedent: key Nitish aide on Rahul's disqualification

My family is the biggest example, said Yadav, whose father was disqualified upon conviction in fodder scam a decade ago and whose younger brother Tejashwi, the Deputy CM of Bihar, is facing cases lodged by ED and CBI.Meanwhile, Union minister and former state BJP chief Nityanand Rai said in a statement that Gandhi should apologise for his utterances that demeaned the OBCs, always insulted by the Congress as evident from the humiliation of its former national president Sitaram Kesri.

Not good precedent: key Nitish aide on Rahul's disqualification

A key aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday took a grim view of the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha and asserted that it had ''not set a good precedent''.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, a senior JD(U) leader and a minister who holds key portfolios like finance and parliamentary affairs, also expressed dismay at the speed of the turn of events which, he said, did not look like ''a natural course of justice''.

''Upon hearing the news of Rahul Gandhi's disqualification, I felt what the people of Bihar and the entire country must be feeling. It is an astonishing development,'' he told reporters outside the assembly.

He said justice should be dispensed in a manner that seems like a natural course but in this case, a ''tearing hurry'' was seen.

The JD(U) leader, whose party is a Congress ally in Bihar, said, ''To begin with, conviction of such a tall leader by a court in Gujarat for something he said in Karnataka is beggars belief. And disqualification follows, at a lightning speed.'' ''This is not a good sign for the country. This has not set a good precedent,'' added Chaudhary.

Chaudhary's cabinet colleague Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of RJD president Lalu Prasad, also reacted to the development saying Gandhi has been ''trapped in a conspiracy by the ruling BJP at the Centre.'' ''The BJP targets all its opponents in this fashion. My family is the biggest example,'' said Yadav, whose father was disqualified upon conviction in fodder scam a decade ago and whose younger brother Tejashwi, the Deputy CM of Bihar, is facing cases lodged by ED and CBI.

Meanwhile, Union minister and former state BJP chief Nityanand Rai said in a statement that Gandhi ''should apologise for his utterances that demeaned the OBCs, always insulted by the Congress as evident from the humiliation of its former national president Sitaram Kesri. The party cannot tolerate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an OBC himself, in the seat of power.''
