Former Minister of Madhya Pradesh and veteran Congress leader Arif Aqueel died at 72 in Bhopal on Monday. Aqueel had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in the state capital for an extended illness.
Aqueel, a six-time MLA, did not contest the November 2023 state assembly poll due to health issues. His son, Atif Aqueel, took up his mantle and was elected as an MLA from Bhopal Uttar. Madhya Pradesh Congress expressed heartfelt condolences on his passing.
The MP Congress posted on X, 'There is sad news of the demise of senior Congress leader, former minister, and former MLA Arif Aqueel. The Congress family prays for peace of the departed soul and for strength to the family to bear this loss. Heartfelt tribute!'
State Congress Chief Jitu Patwari honored Aqueel's contributions, calling his death 'an irreparable loss.' He added, 'May God give peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear this blow. Humble tributes!'
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh also shared his grief, noting their close association spanning almost 40 years. 'I pray to God to reside him in Jannat,' Singh posted on X. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav extended his condolences, hoping for strength for the bereaved family.
