Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expects Denmark to secure a central portfolio in the upcoming commission.
Denmark has nominated Dan Jorgensen, a centre-left minister, for a post in the new European Commission. This follows the EU parliamentary elections held earlier this year. Jorgensen, a former member of the European Parliament and ex-Danish energy and climate minister, will undergo a vetting process and need approval from the European Parliament before he can assume the role.
Denmark's representation on the EU's executive body has until now been through Margrethe Vestager, known for her stringent actions against Big Tech companies for anti-competitive behavior. Jorgensen, who currently serves in Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's Social Democrat-led government, is expected to secure a central portfolio according to Frederiksen.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has been in discussions with Ursula von der Leyen, recently re-elected as the President of the European Commission, about Denmark's responsibilities in the new commission team, which will feature a commissioner from each of the 27 EU countries.
