The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu, accusing it of breaching constitutional rights. This comes in response to police actions against the BJP's women's wing leaders who attempted to march and demand justice for a sexual assault victim.
According to the BJP, several of their Mahila Morcha leaders faced detention or were placed under house arrest as they organized a rally from Madurai to Chennai. The party alleges that these actions highlight the double standards of the opposition alliance, which they claim is protecting criminals under the DMK-led state administration.
Senior BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar addressed a press conference to emphasize the constitutional right to assemble, as defined by Article 19 (1) (b). He criticized the 'INDI alliance', DMK, and Congress for undermining these rights while purportedly honoring the constitution. Furthermore, economic mismanagement by Congress in other states was also targeted.
