Trinamool Congress MPs have raised a significant concern, alleging the government is sidestepping discussions on the duplication of voter ID numbers in Parliament. This issue, they argue, strikes at the heart of democratic integrity.
The TMC, along with other opposition parties, has been actively pushing for a debate on the matter, noting they have repeatedly submitted notices requesting such discussions. Yet, they claim that despite assurances from the government and parliamentary leaders, these debates are consistently postponed.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, TMC figures like Sagarika Ghose have emphasized that a clean and fair electoral roll is crucial for fair elections. The Election Commission has acknowledged the issue, stemming from earlier decentralization, and has committed to resolving it within three months. Opposition leaders continue to demand an immediate parliamentary discourse to ensure the sanctity of the electoral process.
