EU Chief Doubts Russia's Peace Intentions Amid Ongoing Bombings
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas expressed skepticism about Russia's interest in peace, citing continued bombings in Ukraine. She stated that Russia is buying time with its actions. Meanwhile, Ukraine's President Zelenskiy demands direct talks with Putin, challenging Russia's sincerity in peace negotiations.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas voiced doubts on Tuesday about Russia's true intentions regarding peace with Ukraine, stating that ongoing military aggression suggests a lack of genuine interest in resolving the conflict.
"I don't think they (Russia) are interested in peace. They are still bombing Ukraine. If they were interested in peace, they could stop right now," Kallas said, addressing reporters at a democracy summit held in Copenhagen. She accused Russia of playing games to delay a resolution.
Amidst these tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed direct talks with Kyiv, while an aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy indicated that Zelenskiy would only engage in peace talks if Putin attends, putting pressure on Russia to prove its commitment to peace.
