ICC Suffers Another Targeted Cybersecurity Breach
The International Criminal Court (ICC) experienced a sophisticated cybersecurity breach, its second in recent years. The breach has been contained, but details remain undisclosed. Previously, the ICC faced scrutiny after issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Russian President Putin, both disputing ICC's jurisdiction.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced on Monday the detection of a new, sophisticated, and targeted cybersecurity breach late last week. The incident marks the second of its kind in recent years and has now been contained, according to an official statement from the court.
In 2023, the ICC faced a similar hacking incident that severely disrupted its operations for weeks, disconnecting it from most internet-based systems. The court provided no further details regarding the instigator of the recent breach. Notably, the ICC has been under heightened scrutiny after issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last November over alleged war crimes during the Gaza conflict.
Additionally, the ICC has issued a warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, suspecting him of deporting children from Ukraine. Both Israel and Russia deny the allegations and reject the court's jurisdiction, as neither country is a member of the ICC.
