A breach of privilege motion against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has been formally accepted by the Maharashtra legislative council chairman, Ram Shinde, after controversial remarks about Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emerged.
The motion, initiated by BJP members, followed Kamra's video critique of the government, which went viral in March. The Privileges Committee is now tasked with examining the motion before the matter reaches the legislative floor for discussion.
During a performance in Mumbai, Kamra labeled Eknath Shinde a 'traitor,' inciting backlash from Shiv Sena supporters who vandalized the venue. Kamra's satire, including a parody song, focused on Shinde's 2022 political rebellion.
