Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has urged for election reforms, emphasizing that these can only be achieved if the Election Commission remains impartial. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Yadav supported reform recommendations from Congress MP Manish Tewari.
Yadav backs Tewari's proposal to broaden the composition of the panel that selects the chief election commissioner and fellow ECs. Tewari suggested including members like the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and the Chief Justice of India to enhance transparency and impartiality.
Additionally, Yadav critiqued the use of electronic voting machines, advocating for a return to ballot paper voting. He accused the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh of manipulating bypolls through force and alleged that the Election Commission failed to act on these infractions.
