In the midst of a heated parliamentary debate on the national song 'Vande Mataram', Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of lacking insight into the song's historical significance. He argued that neither Modi nor his party had read two seminal books that delve into the essence of the national song and anthem.
Ramesh highlighted this point on social media, taking a swipe at BJP leaders for what he described as their ignorance and dishonesty in public discourse. He urged them to familiarize themselves with the works of historians Rudrangshu Mukherjee and Sabyasachi Bhattacharya, which he deemed essential reading for understanding the song's patriotic value.
The parliamentary session, initiated by Prime Minister Modi, saw leaders of various parties discuss the impact of 'Vande Mataram' on India's freedom struggle. Modi spoke about its significance in energizing the nation's pursuit of independence. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a critique on Congress, alleging suppression of the song during Indira Gandhi's tenure.
