Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar has slammed the recently concluded seven-day winter session of the Maharashtra legislature as an 'election jumla,' claiming it disproportionately focused on Mumbai over Vidarbha. Wadettiwar, addressing a press conference, noted that no substantive discussion on crucial issues such as malnutrition took place.
In the backdrop of the first phase of local body elections on December 2, the session failed to deliver concrete solutions, with Wadettiwar alleging increased corruption across the state. Opposition leaders further highlighted the lack of accountability over 190 MoUs signed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, worth Rs 20.62 lakh crore in investments since 2022.
NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil echoed Wadettiwar's concerns, criticizing the brevity of the legislative session. Patil also drew attention to the escalating drug menace, stressing the need for more in-depth discussions and solutions from the government. The urgency for polls to be completed by January 31, 2026, under a Supreme Court order adds to the political tension.
