Nagpur Civic Polls Witness 51% Voter Participation Amid Political Showdown

The Nagpur civic polls concluded with a recorded voter turnout of 51%, marking a significant day with top political figures such as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat exercising their right to vote. Polling ended at 5:30 PM, a civic official reported.
A total of 2,483,112 individuals were eligible to vote in the elections, comprising 1,226,690 males and 1,256,166 females. The elections were held for 151 seats across 38 wards within the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, setting the stage for a competitive political showdown.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested on 143 seats, partnering with Shiv Sena on eight, while the Congress aimed for all 151 seats independently. This political contest follows the results of the 2017 municipal elections, where the BJP secured a commanding victory with 108 seats, followed by Congress with 28, and other parties sharing the remainder.
