Cheng Li-wun, the leader of Taiwan's main opposition party, is on a mission to clear up misconceptions during her visit to the U.S. As the chairwoman of the Kuomintang (KMT), she has faced scrutiny from Washington's hawks over her party's conciliatory stance toward China.

During her U.S. tour, Cheng met with nine members of Congress, academics, and think tank representatives. She asserted that dialogues during these encounters clarified her intentions and showcased the KMT's commitment to Taiwan's defense and democratic values.

Cheng emphasized that engaging in peaceful dialogue does not equate to abandoning Taiwan's defense capabilities or democratic principles. Additionally, she remarked on U.S. suggestions for the KMT to propose more defense legislation, ensuring Taiwan remains strong against external pressures.
