The Commission for Air Quality Management has enacted stricter measures under GRAP Stage-III to combat rising pollution levels in Delhi-NCR. This decision was prompted by a surge in air quality index from 349 to 401 due to adverse meteorological conditions.
Under Stage-III, the commission has imposed various restrictions, including a ban on non-essential construction and demolition, as well as limitations on certain vehicle emissions. The measures are also extending to educational adjustments, with classes up to the fifth grade transitioning to hybrid models.
This increased level of response is part of the CAQM's efforts to prevent further air quality deterioration, adding to existing actions under Stages I and II. The move is a strategic effort to address Delhi's notorious winter air pollution, largely driven by slow dispersal of pollutants and additional environmental stresses.
