Early Saturday morning witnessed a significant fire on the ground floor of a 12-storey mixed-use building in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Officials confirmed that there were no casualties, though 42 individuals were successfully evacuated from Jabal E Nur Tower, according to the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) news agency.
This incident represents the second major fire incident striking a multi-storey structure in Dhaka in the last two months. Previously, on October 14, a devastating blaze swept through a chemical warehouse and neighboring garments factory, resulting in at least 16 fatalities. The Fire Service and Civil Defence were notified at 5:37 AM local time, with firefighting teams arriving by 5:45 AM.
To combat the fire, 18 firefighting units were deployed, as reported by Fire Service media officer Anwarul Islam. Border Guard Bangladesh personnel were also present, ensuring law and order and assisting emergency responders. Locals suspect scrap clothes in the basement could have accelerated the fire, though the precise cause remains unclear. The persistent occurrence of fires reflects historical safety oversights in Bangladesh's industrial sectors.
