The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has voiced strong opposition to the ongoing demolition drive by the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), urging for a suspension of operations and the legalization of current constructions. The party leaders, led by MLA Rajeev Kumar Bhagat, intervened to stop the demolition of unauthorized structures along the Ring Road.
On May 5, BJP leaders including Rajeev Kumar Bhagat, Garu Ram Bhagat, Surinder Bhagat, and former MLA Chander Prakash Ganga, met with JDA Vice Chairman Rupesh Kumar. They sought the cessation of demolition activities and emphasized the need for registration and regularization of existing buildings. Allegations were made against JDA's staff for failing in their duties and misleading the public.
The BJP also demanded an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau into alleged irregularities by JDA officials. The demand highlighted the need for coordination between the JDA and Revenue authorities to rectify conflicting land-use classifications, which have confused residents. The JDA asserted that the demolition drive followed due process, aiming to enforce regulations and ensure planned urban development.
