Palmeiras President Slams CONMEBOL for Lenient Racism Punishment

Palmeiras president Leila Mejdalani Pereira has voiced strong criticism against CONMEBOL after its recent ruling on racial abuse faced by Palmeiras U20 player, Luighi. She described the $50,000 fine and fan ban imposed on Paraguay's Cerro Porteno as absurd and insufficient.

Luighi, emotionally affected, shared his pain on social media, expressing frustration with ongoing racism issues. Pereira highlighted that such penalties inadequately address the gravity of racism, especially given Brazil's substantial financial contributions to CONMEBOL.

Emphasizing the need for change, Pereira floated the idea of Brazilian clubs joining CONCACAF to ensure respect and stronger measures against racism. She stressed that Brazilian football deserves better treatment from its governing bodies.
