India's ongoing struggles in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle have garnered attention, with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar acknowledging the urgent need for the team to enhance its standards to improve its rankings and secure a spot in the final. Agarkar's remarks came during a press conference after the BCCI unveiled squads for upcoming T20I series and the Asian Games 2026.
Currently holding the third position in the ICC Men's Test Team Rankings, India maintains a 104 rating with 2,600 points, trailing behind the leading Australia, which boasts a 131 rating and 3,138 points. Addressing India's fluctuating form, Agarkar stated, "I don't know whether worry is the right word, but we obviously need to improve our performances. We still have a chance if we play well enough."
India's inconsistent WTC campaign sees them positioned sixth in the standings, with four wins from nine matches. Australia and South Africa lead the table, leaving India under pressure to perform well in future Tests to keep their championship final aspirations alive. Upcoming matches will be crucial for India's journey in the WTC as they strive to regain momentum.
