This Republic Day, the Delhi Police will debut AI-enabled smart glasses with facial recognition and thermal imaging, elevating security protocols. These state-of-the-art devices, created by an Indian firm, link directly to extensive police criminal databases, facilitating real-time identification of individuals in dense public settings.
Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla revealed that officers will connect these wearable gadgets to their mobile devices, unlocking instant access to comprehensive criminal records. A color-coded system on the glasses signals an individual's criminal status, green for no records and red for potential threats, enabling immediate apprehension when needed.
Beyond facial recognition, the glasses' thermal features allow officers to pinpoint metal or concealed weapons, paving the way for heightened security. This innovative move is a key element of a larger plan incorporating drones, CCTV, and real-time AI analytics to safeguard Republic Day events.
