During a recent White House roundtable with farming sector representatives, President Donald Trump declared his intention to curb rice dumping by foreign nations, chiefly India, into the United States. He emphasized the use of tariffs as a direct solution to the issue.

The meeting included key cabinet members and highlighted the allocation of USD 12 billion in aid for American farmers. Agribusiness owner Meryl Kennedy shared concerns over rice dumping from India, Thailand, and China, mentioning an active World Trade Organisation case against India.

Trump, who has previously imposed a 50 percent tariff on India, assured prompt action, stressing that lawful application of tariffs could swiftly resolve the situation, although his tariff imposition powers face legal challenges in U.S. courts.
