India and Indonesia Forge Strategic Alliances in Defense and Economy

India and Indonesia signed multiple agreements focusing on critical minerals, agriculture, and defense, including the BrahMos cruise missile system. This marks a significant advancement in Indo-Indonesian ties, with both nations reaffirming their regional commitments and aiming to boost trade, security, and economic collaborations.

In a landmark move, India and Indonesia fortified their bilateral relations on Tuesday by signing a series of agreements. These include significant deals in critical minerals, agriculture, and defense, with the BrahMos cruise missile system featuring prominently.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta during his first visit to the Southeast Asian nation since 2023. The leaders emphasized their regional commitments and the mutual benefits of aligning their two large democracies.

An Indian government official confirmed a substantial deal for the BrahMos system, valued at around $630 million, as well as agreements on air-to-air missiles. Additional agreements focused on strengthening supply chains in critical minerals and establishing a joint venture in stainless steel slab production between India and Indonesia.
