China's commerce ministry has taken a decisive step against Japanese imports by imposing preliminary anti-dumping measures on dichlorosilane, a vital chemical in semiconductor production.

Starting Tuesday, Japanese companies importing dichlorosilane will be required to make cash deposits with customs authorities. The deposit rates are determined at 99.2% for Shin-Etsu Chemical, 80.8% for Denal Silane, and 99.2% for other Japanese manufacturers.

The ministry's announcement is seen as a key move in protecting China's domestic semiconductor industry, potentially escalating trade tensions with Japan.
