In the past 16 months, the Odisha Higher Education Department has registered eight ragging complaints from two state-run colleges, revealed Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj in the Assembly on Friday.

Responding to an inquiry by Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam, the minister specified that BJB Autonomous Degree College in Bhubaneswar and Government Autonomous College in Rourkela each reported four complaints. Cases at BJB were amicably resolved, while the Rourkela incidents saw punitive measures taken by the anti-ragging cell against the culprits.

Minister Suraj assured that the anti-ragging cell remains vigilant, emphasizing ongoing efforts to curtail ragging in state educational institutions. He disclosed plans to collate data on incidents from engineering and medical colleges and reiterated adherence to UGC guidelines to prevent ragging.
