Odisha Tackles College Ragging: Swift Actions and Settlements Unveiled
In Odisha, eight ragging complaints were reported from two government colleges over 16 months. Minister Suryabanshi Suraj detailed the resolution of these cases and emphasized the proactive efforts of the anti-ragging cell. The Higher Education Department is gathering more data on ragging incidents statewide.

In the past 16 months, the Odisha Higher Education Department has registered eight ragging complaints from two state-run colleges, revealed Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj in the Assembly on Friday.
Responding to an inquiry by Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam, the minister specified that BJB Autonomous Degree College in Bhubaneswar and Government Autonomous College in Rourkela each reported four complaints. Cases at BJB were amicably resolved, while the Rourkela incidents saw punitive measures taken by the anti-ragging cell against the culprits.
Minister Suraj assured that the anti-ragging cell remains vigilant, emphasizing ongoing efforts to curtail ragging in state educational institutions. He disclosed plans to collate data on incidents from engineering and medical colleges and reiterated adherence to UGC guidelines to prevent ragging.
