Ukraine's Energy Crisis Deepens Amid Russian Strikes
Russian forces destroyed a major energy facility in Kharkiv, exacerbating Ukraine’s energy crisis amid attacks on infrastructure. In response, Ukraine's leadership, including President Zelenskiy, is implementing measures to hasten recovery and secure necessary resources. Continuous strikes are leaving cities without power, heating, and water, worsening their plight during winter.
Russian forces have devastated a significant energy facility in Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv, compounding the country's energy crisis. This attack is part of Moscow's winter airstrike campaign, which has plunged millions into cold and darkness, Kharkiv's Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy chaired a meeting following his recent criticism of recovery efforts in Kyiv, focusing on rapid decision-making to address the destruction from Russian strikes. Kyiv witnessed further strikes, even as the Ukrainian government, led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, introduced strategies to mitigate power and heating outages.
Ukraine seeks international assistance with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha highlighting appeals for financial aid. Despite other regions like Odesa also being under attack, steps are being taken, such as easing curfews and extending school holidays, to maintain stability amid these challenges.
