In a significant advancement for India's border management, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Land Port Management System (LPMS) named 'Vinimay' on Tuesday. This certified digital platform is set to usher in a new era of efficiency and modernization at the country's land ports.
The LPMS seamlessly integrates operations across various stakeholders such as customs, immigration, and border guarding forces, marking a shift towards technology-enabled smart border management. Speaking at the inauguration, Shah emphasized how Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision has not only turned land ports into the frontline of border security but has also streamlined trade processes.
The system introduces digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking and single-window clearances. Fully compatible with national platforms like ICEGATE and ULIP, LPMS promises interoperable, transparent border management. The Land Ports Authority of India, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, oversees the operation of 15 land ports across international borders.
