Havaldar in Thane Caught in Rs 5 Lakh Bribery Case
A 40-year-old police havaldar from Maharashtra's Thane district has been charged for allegedly demanding Rs 5 lakh to exclude a friend's name from a complaint. The accused initially demanded Rs 7 lakh but later reduced it. The Anti-Corruption Bureau registered an FIR following the victim's complaint.

A 40-year-old police havaldar in Maharashtra's Thane district faces charges for allegedly demanding a Rs 5 lakh bribe to exclude a friend's name from a complaint, authorities disclosed Thursday.
The aggrieved person had lodged a complaint against his friend's brother-in-law. The havaldar, affiliated with the MFC police station in Kalyan, initially sought Rs 7 lakh but lowered the demand to Rs 5 lakh upon negotiation, according to an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) release filed by Inspector Vijay Kawle.
The victim subsequently approached the ACB, leading to the registration of an FIR against the officer on Wednesday under the Prevention of Corruption Act, officials confirmed.
