India Monitors Violent Protests in Bangladesh Amid Safety Concerns for Nationals
India has described the violent protests in Bangladesh as an internal matter but is closely monitoring the situation due to the presence of around 15,000 Indian nationals. The clashes stem from student protests against a controversial job quota system, with authorities in Bangladesh taking significant measures to control the unrest.

India has termed the violent protests in Bangladesh as an internal matter, while maintaining a close watch on the situation due to the presence of 15,000 nationals in the country.
The unrest, driven by students demanding the repeal of a contentious job quota system, has resulted in around 30 fatalities over the past weeks.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that the 15,000 Indians, including 8,500 students, are safe. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is closely monitoring the situation.
Due to the deteriorating situation, Bangladesh has stopped bus and train services, and closed schools and universities.
India has issued a safety advisory for its nationals and activated 24x7 helpline numbers. Regular updates will be provided by the Indian High Commission and authorities remain in contact with local authorities for ensuring safety.
