Supreme Court to Hear Uddhav Thackeray Faction's Plea Against Shinde's Shiv Sena
The Supreme Court will hear a plea from the Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's decision to declare the Eknath Shinde-led faction as the 'real Shiv Sena.' The Thackeray group argues that Shinde's faction unconstitutionally seized power and that the Speaker's decisions are unlawful.

The Supreme Court is set to hear, on August 7, a plea by the Uddhav Thackeray faction challenging Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's decision. Narwekar declared the Shiv Sena bloc led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the 'real political party' after their split in June 2022.
The Speaker also dismissed disqualification petitions against CM Shinde and his supporting MLAs from the Thackeray faction. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud made the observations while addressing concerns raised by senior advocate Kapil Sibal about the pleas being tagged with an NCP-related case.
The court plans to hear the Thackeray faction's plea after concluding a similar petition from the Sharad Pawar group of the NCP. Both factions aim to resolve issues arising from internal party disputes which have significant political implications ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly's November expiration.
