Mohamed Amra, infamously known as 'The Fly', has been arrested in Romania, marking the end of a high-profile manhunt initiated after his bold escape from a prison van in France last May. This capture was confirmed by the French interior minister, who also lauded Romanian authorities for their cooperation.
Amra, a 30-year-old fugitive from northern France, was implicated in drug trafficking and had been previously convicted of burglary. His escape resulted not only in the unfortunate deaths of two prison guards but also fueled political debates in France regarding government control over drug-related crimes.
He had been convicted by a court in Evreux earlier in May and was serving time at Val de Reuil prison until his escape. Additionally, Amra faced indictment by Marseille prosecutors for involvement in a kidnapping that resulted in a death, adding to his lengthy criminal record.
