Midnight Drone Strikes Intensify Amid Ongoing Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Russia launched a massive overnight drone attack targeting Ukraine, focusing on the Kyiv region and energy facilities, resulting in two civilian deaths. Despite Ukraine's air defense efforts, Russia continues to escalate its campaign, which has caused significant damage to energy sectors. Both sides deny targeting civilians.
In a relentless escalation, Russia unleashed nearly 200 drones in an overnight attack targeting Ukraine's Kyiv region and energy facilities in the east. Authorities confirmed two deaths as Russia's intensified drone campaign continues, echoing its stepped-up assaults in recent weeks.
Ukraine's air defenses managed to shoot down 110 of the 177 drones launched overnight, while 66 were "lost" due to the use of electronic warfare tactics. Affected areas include Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, and Sumy, with damage reported at an energy facility in Dnipropetrovsk, operated by private company DTEK.
The ongoing conflict, which began with Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians, predominantly Ukrainians. Despite vigorous denials from both sides about targeting civilians, the toll of war continues to rise, with the latest attack leaving destruction and loss in its wake.
