The government has tabled a resolution in the Lok Sabha, seeking approval to extend President's Rule in Manipur for another six months beyond the August 13 deadline. This comes after an initial declaration was made on February 13, with parliamentary approval granted on April 2.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, presented the statutory resolution for discussion among Lok Sabha members. The deliberation marks a critical decision point for the region, which has been under the central government's control since early this year.
Speaker Om Birla indicated the necessity of obtaining the commitment of both Houses of Parliament to sanction the extension. The move highlights ongoing governance challenges and the continued need for direct federal intervention in Manipur.
