Legislative Restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir

The Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir's Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, reminded legislators they cannot pose questions about departments under the Lieutenant Governor's authority, including the Home Department. In the latest legislative session, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather emphasized the restrictions imposed on lawmakers regarding certain administrative inquiries. These restrictions pertain to departments under the Lieutenant Governor's direct control.

The Speaker's directive was highlighted when a question by MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed about the Home Department was removed. This action was taken due to the jurisdictional boundaries defined by the J-K Reorganisation Act.

Khursheed's inquiry focused on the delayed ex-gratia payments to victims' families under SRO-43. He sought clarity on the timeframes for settling compensation claims, underscoring the urgency and importance of the issue.
