In a significant crackdown against illegal narcotics activities, Meerut police have arrested five individuals allegedly connected to an interstate drug syndicate, seizing a substantial 125 kg of ganja, officials reported on Saturday.
The arrests occurred during a vehicle inspection near the Jangethi drain under the Kankarkheda police station in Meerut district, where law enforcement officers detained suspects Ajay alias Rohta, Manoj, Krishnakant Bhushan, Rohit alias Sonu, and Rahul. The ganja was recovered from their vehicle, suspected to have been used for trafficking purposes. A formal case has been lodged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with the prime suspect, Ajay alias Rohta, identified as having over ten prior criminal charges.
In a separate operation, police arrested three more suspects—Ajay alias Kaliya, Chotiya, and Mohit Goswami—near Bat Jewra drain, seizing an additional 26 kg of ganja and another vehicle. Cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against all involved, highlighting the suspects' extensive criminal backgrounds, including previous NDPS Act violations.
