Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed optimism about resolving U.S. CAATSA sanctions against Turkey, emphasizing ongoing discussions with Washington. He also addressed Washington's evolving peace plan for Ukraine, noting it as a promising start. Turkey remains open to hosting future negotiations for conflict resolution.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is hopeful that Turkey and the United States will soon resolve issues surrounding U.S. CAATSA sanctions. His remarks came during a Saturday interview with Reuters.
Fidan stated that the nations are actively working on removing the penalties tied to Turkey's acquisition of Russian S-400 air defense systems, which led to Ankara's exclusion from the F-35 fighter jet program in 2020. He described the sanctions as unjust and expressed hope for resolution in President Trump's second term.
Addressing the Ukraine conflict, Fidan highlighted that the U.S.'s initial 28-point peace plan, despite early criticism, is evolving positively. He commended American mediation efforts and reiterated Turkey's readiness to facilitate further peace talks.
