Normal life came to a halt across the Capital Complex of Arunachal Pradesh as a dawn-to-dusk bandh, organized by three local organizations, took effect on Tuesday. This civic disruption aimed to draw attention to demands for demolishing allegedly illegal religious structures and deporting purported illegal immigrants.
According to a senior police officer, the shutdown saw markets, banks, schools, and government offices closing their doors, while public transport remained idle. Six individuals were detained for attempting to enforce the bandh in Itanagar and its neighboring regions, underscoring the tense atmosphere.
Despite the bandh being declared illegal by the Capital District Magistrate, citing threats to public order, the call for protest resonated, exposing the friction between local aspirations and governance. The authorities warned of stringent action against those spreading inflammatory messages, as measures were stepped up under upgraded law enforcement frameworks.
