The Indian government has responded to the growing problem of fake recruitment job offers that have entrapped Indian nationals, often through social media channels, into traveling to South-East Asian countries. These deceptive schemes lead individuals into cybercrime activities, often without their full understanding of the dangers involved.

Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, informed the Rajya Sabha that more than 6,700 Indians have been rescued from countries like Cambodia, Myanmar, and Lao PDR. He emphasized that these issues are addressed at a political level with host nations, and substantial efforts are made by Indian embassies for the repatriation of affected individuals.

To prevent future incidents, the government and Indian Missions have been proactive in issuing advisories, both online and offline, to warn potential job seekers about the risks of fraudulent offers. Channels for assistance and communication for Indians abroad have been enhanced, including emergency contact numbers and grievance portals.
