AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has accused the Congress-led government in Karnataka of pursuing a project that could turn Tamil Nadu into a desert. The contentious Mekedatu dam project aims to build a reservoir across the Cauvery River, raising concerns about water scarcity for Tamil Nadu.
Palaniswami blamed the ruling DMK government for failing to present a strong case before the Cauvery Management Authority and the Supreme Court. He expressed disappointment over the DMK conceding Tamil Nadu's rights on the Cauvery water issue whenever in power, labeling it as 'betrayal' and urging immediate legal action.
Efforts are underway by Tamil Nadu to counter the project, with a review petition filed in the Supreme Court and a plea submitted to the Central Water Commission. The Mekedatu project, intended to provide drinking water for Bengaluru and generate power, remains a controversial topic due to its potential impact on Tamil Nadu.
