Water Cutoff Hits Russian-Controlled Donetsk Amid Power Strikes

Water supply has been severed in parts of the Russian-controlled Donetsk region, including its main city, due to a Ukrainian attack on energy infrastructure, according to local reports on Friday.

The Ukrainian strike affected power, leading to disrupted water supplies in Donetsk, Yasynuvata, and parts of Makiivka. The supply blackout highlights growing infrastructure vulnerabilities amid ongoing conflict.

In 2022, Russia claimed sovereignty over Donetsk and three other Ukrainian regions. Russian President Vladimir Putin asserts control over more than 85% of the area. However, chronic water shortages have become a significant obstacle for Russian authorities in maintaining control.
