Donald Trump was declared safe after gunshots were reported near him on Sunday afternoon in Florida, according to his campaign and the Secret Service. It remains unclear whether the shots were targeted at the former president.
The US Secret Service has commenced an investigation, stating that the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. "The former president is safe," confirmed the Secret Service.
Two months prior, Trump was injured during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. This weekend, he returned to Florida from a series of events on the West Coast. Law enforcement is determining the location of the gunshots, either near Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach or on its grounds.
Since July's attempt on his life, Trump's security has significantly increased. At Trump Tower and during outdoor rallies, extensive security measures, including bulletproof glass enclosures, are now standard.
No immediate response was received from campaign officials regarding the security status and location of Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump's running mate.
