West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee intensified her critique of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing the Centre and Election Commission of politically motivated voter roll deletions. Addressing a rally in Krishnanagar, Banerjee warned against removing names of eligible Bengali voters ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
Banerjee alleged that district magistrates faced pressure to remove up to 1.5 crore names, guided by BJP influence. She questioned the transparency of the process and vowed to stage an indefinite sit-in protest if even one eligible voter was disenfranchised.
Responding to Shah's recent statements in Parliament, Banerjee fiercely opposed any form of NRC implementation in West Bengal, insisting that no rightful resident would be expelled under her government. The chief minister's pointed rhetoric underscores escalating tensions in the lead-up to the polls.
