In a forceful critique of Assam's political climate, Congress President Gaurav Gogoi lambasted the state's current administration for what he describes as 'hate-filled politics.' Speaking in Jorhat, Gogoi expressed that the local electorate is disillusioned with the existing governance, urging opposition parties to unite in their quest to cleanse the political theater.
Gogoi framed the forthcoming Assembly elections as a battle between loyalists of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and defectors led by current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, a former Congress member. He criticized the BJP, proclaiming it is now dominated by erstwhile Congress figures.
Despite recent defections to the BJP, including prominent leaders like Pradyut Bordoloi and Bhupen Kumar Borah, Congress leader Pawan Khera emphasized the party's cohesion under Gogoi's leadership. The Congress, in coalition with several regional parties, prepares to contest 100 of the 126 assembly seats. The elections are set for April 9 with results expected on May 4, as per the Election Commission of India.
